Daydreaming About Spring Fashion

by Lauren Setum

Today’s featured outfit was inspired by the 100% silk blouse by Rebecca Taylor that you see below. I have spring on the brain, and the floral print hints at warmer days ahead. Plus, the grey, purple and burgundy tones make it appropriate for the cooler days that inevitably come before the warmer ones. A pop of Radiant Orchid (Pantone’s Color of the Year!), and you’re ready to roll.

If It’s Meant to Be, They’ll Turn Out

by Lauren Setum

That’s what I told my lovely photographer, Laura, towards the end of this chilly shoot. I don’t think she’s going to use my declaration as a tag line for her business anytime soon, but we both had a good laugh! I was determined to get some snow-filled outdoor pictures with this outfit, even if it meant braving 3 degree temperatures. So out we went, to Northeast Minneapolis, to photograph this red sweater dress (my mom’s from the 80s…I guess some good fashion did come out of that decade, who knew?!). For a similar sweater dress, check out this one from BCBGMAXAZRIA at Nordstrom. The rest of the outfit consists of earrings from J Crew (find similar here), brown suede boots (try these from Nordstrom) and a knit headband from Paper Hat in Minneapolis. I’m happy to say that the photos were meant to be; they definitely turned out…

Get Ready to Party!

by Lauren Setum

Good morning, everyone! TGIF! Today, Salt and Pippa is celebrating the end of the last full work-week before the holidays by featuring local Twin Cities lifestyle magazine, Bow & Arrow. If you’re not familiar with the publication, now’s the time to check it out. This month’s ‘Celebration Issue’ marks the magazine’s first anniversary, and it’s chock full of sensational style, great food, party tips and tricks and much more. It’s truly a delight to read; visit Bow & Arrow’s website for the full issue.

Bow & Arrow’s Directors (L-R: Vanessa, Jaclyn, Laura, and Katie)

Paging through the anniversary/holiday issue, you’ll notice that Bow & Arrow’s directors are decked out in some fabulous dresses from ModCloth. This time of year, one can never have too many dresses to choose from, right? I’ve included a few additional picks from ModCloth below. Which is your favorite?

For a more neutral look, try these pumps by Charles David (available in both black and nude). I know I feature these shoes all the time, but they really are great. A true classic. If you want to add a bit more interest, check out Halogen’s Marla Suede Bow Pointy Toe Pump, the Camille Pump by Coach or the Valencia Pump by Charles David; all are available at Nordstrom. Grab some jewelry with a little sparkle, and you’re all set!

Get Your Pantone On…

by Lauren Setum

In case you haven’t already heard, the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid. I was reminded of a lovely House Beautiful cover from earlier this year…

The color, in my opinion, can easily become a bit ‘childish’ looking if not used correctly. This living area by New York interior designer, Ashley Whittaker, however, does a beautiful job of showcasing the color in such a way that the resulting space is chic and inviting for grown ups and kids alike.

Not up for a Radiant Orchid redecorating project? Then get your Pantone on with a few additions to your wardrobe. Oh, and in case you’re wondering what color to pair with this shade of purple, I think red (generally speaking) is an excellent choice!

I Feel Pretty, O So Pretty

by Lauren Setum

With nearly a half a foot of snow on the ground here in Minneapolis, it’s officially time for jackets, coats, scarves, and gloves. I have to say that after awhile, it gets somewhat cumbersome putting on all the layers and packing shoes in addition to boots…let’s be real, high heels were not made with snow in mind. By February, I’m usually getting a little lazy when it comes to style and just willing spring to come so I can leave the puffy layers behind. Today’s mood board consists of a few items I love that are stylish AND functional for this chilly time of year. No reason to not feel pretty even if it does feel like we’re in the North Pole!

ifeelpretty

Wool head wrap from Banana Republic: I’m all for a cute winter hat, but sometimes it’s fun to change it up. I went with a neutral palette today, however, this piece is available in some brighter colorways as well.

The description that accompanies this Sheer Addiction Jewelry necklace is so fitting for today’s post: “For the girl who takes a moment to soak in the beauty of the first snowfall”

Non-toxic nailpolish from Scotch Naturals: I adore this particular color (To Hell With Swords and Garter). Just the right amount of brown mixed with just the right amount of red. Yum. Perfect for some much needed winter manicures.

These long leather gloves from Max Studio have made an appearance on the blog before. Here they are again for an encore. Can’t get enough of the lovely details. Pair them with 3/4 sleeve jackets or dresses. Super chic.

Colorblock cable sweater from Michael Kors at Nordstrom: It received just average reviews online, but I have to say, I’d give it five stars. I just purchased this sweater last night (in fact, I’m wearing it right now!), and it’s even more flattering on than it looks to be online. Available in several other colors, I assure you, you won’t be disappointed!

Winter wedge shoes from Pikolinos: Now these are what I call ‘rustic-chic’. Beautiful details, great lines and a sturdy shoe. Well-worth the investment.

Cyber Monday

by Lauren Setum

Happy Cyber Monday everyone! Here are my picks for the biggest online shopping day of the year. Wishing you sales-galore today!

dress

This was my indulgence for the day. Originally $218, this Nic + Zoe dress is now only $54!

vcamuto

Vince Camuto never disappoints. These shoes, originally $118, are now 50% off at Nordstrom.

MiaFirst_handleandbox_1000x1000

I’m excited about this one because you rarely find Clarisonic products at a discounted price. Through the end of the day, everything is 20% off. This particular brush is being offered at a special price of $99 while supplies last.

stripe

This pencil skirt has a sporty feeling to it; very versatile. $40 instead of $60 on Zara’s website today!

This one wasn’t available in my size any more, but you should definitely get your hands on this Michael Kors dress if it’s available in yours. Originally $325, it’s now only $90.

neck

This necklace from J Crew Factory was originally $52 but is now 50% off (as is everything on their website today!).

Loeffler Randall is having a sample sale through the 13th. They’ll be offering past designs for purchase. These black suede pumps with gold studs were originally $395, but today you can grab a pair for $198.

Last but not least, shoes that will have you ready for summer way ahead of time from Seychelles (now $44 instead of $80)

I Have Nothing to Wear!

by Lauren Setum

Be honest, how many times have you stood in front of a closet full of clothes and uttered these words? With all the preparation that goes into holiday festivities, thinking about what we’re going to wear often ends up on the back burner. Online shopping certainly has its place, but seeing as tomorrow is Turkey Day, there’s no time to deal with items that require 5-10 business days to ship. So, for today’s post, I’m sharing a handful of my picks for holiday attire that can be found in store at your local mall. There are a ton of sales going on right now, and some websites even allow you to choose your size online, put it on hold and then pick up in store. When asked about your fabulous outfit tomorrow, just go with, “What? This old thing?!”

nicandzoe

Nic +Zoe dress at Nordstrom. Currently 40% off! Pair it with black tights and boots and a chunky necklace. Too cold for short sleeves? Layer a turtleneck underneath for added warmth. Comfy AND it twirls…perfection.

hmjacket

Fitted jacket from H&M. For just under $50, you can add this fabulous pop of pattern to your wardrobe. Definitely a piece that you can use time and time again. Pair with black leather pants and a flowy blouse.

pants

I can personally attest to the loveliness of these blue leopard tuxedo pants by Trouve at NordstromI tried them on a couple weeks ago (and they’re now on my wishlist!). They are so comfy and the pattern makes for a more interesting pant than a plain blue jean.

shoe

These suede wedge booties by Ann Taylor would go great with the Trouve pants! The color-blocking adds a little intrigue.

cape

If you’re traveling rather than hosting for the holiday, this cape from Ann Taylor will be just right. The material is terrific; the cape is a great alternative to not-always-so-stylish outerwear.

shoe2

These calf-hair block heels are also from Ann Taylor, and they add just the right amount of pizzazz! Who doesn’t love a good polka dot?

sweater

This side-button sweater from J. Crew takes a simple sweater and makes it extra stylish with well-placed details. This red color way is ravishing, but it also comes in several other colorways that would go well with some of the other pieces in today’s post.

banana1

Last but not least, I love this casual-chic look from Banana Republic.
